Ze Fabulous Noorster and I spent a couple of happy hours wandering around Tel Aviv this Yom Kippur day - which was, as per tradition, hot, dry and sunny. We had a blast. She posted her set of photos here; and mine are here. Clearly, one of us knows how to use a camera - and it ain't me. ;)
The kids of Tel Aviv had a wonderful, wonderful day. Mwahaha, they seemed to be saying, as they careened around the city's traffic-free roads, the city is ours. All ours! I shot a video of a bunch of them at the corner of King George and Bograshov (below). For an idea of how noisy and crowded that intersection is on a normal day, check out Ernesto's photos. Also, Idan's photos include some fabulous shots of the Ayalon Highway.

Cool, except you moved just as a guy on a bike was going to run over a pedestrian!
Tel Aviv lights stay red/normal? They don't go to flashing yellow like in Jerusalem? Keep it up and I will have to keep checking your blog in order to live vicariously! It's fun. And it cheered me up after my break-the-fast meal made me violently ill. Re: Re: Yom Kippur in Tel Aviv: kids on bicycles rule the streets
Lisoosh, I think the pedestrian you're referring to was me, and I'm fine. Bicycle Guy, however...

Just curious: how do the people feel about the Yom Kippur War?
Re: Yom Kippur in Tel Aviv: kids on bicycles rule the streets
"We had a blast."
You, people, must be careful with the terminology around this place ;-) But yeah, this was a good one, all that food considered... Best. Re: Yom Kippur in Tel Aviv: kids on bicycles rule the streets

Dear Lisa, I hope you can say some words about what's happening in post-War Israel: the knowledge about civilian casualties, phosphor and cluster bombs, teen palestinian sheperds killed by IDF, activitists brutalised by the police when they tried to pass (Gandhi would be shot dead here!), savage beat of 3 brothers in Nablus... In Europe the friends of Israel and jewish culture can no longer support this, it's too horrible. Really frightening news come from Russia and Israel. Is there something we can make? or just talk about funny things? shalom.
Re: Re: Yom Kippur in Tel Aviv: kids on bicycles rule the streets
Dear Anonymous,
To be perfectly frank, I would rather have a root canal than address any of the issues raised in your comment - especially given your rather breathless adjectives and hyperbolic statements ("Gandhi would be shot dead?!"). Then again, if someone were to offer me a lotalotalot of money - like, enough to allow me to retire in luxury - I might re-consider... :P Barring that rather unlikely event - No thank you. I am still recovering from the war. Re: Re: Re: Yom Kippur in Tel Aviv: kids on bicycles rule the streets

Lisa,
sorry I am not the rich guy to retire you ;) It's not polite to be anonymous, My name is Leo, I'm a 34 years old child psychologist. And is not easy for a Spaniard to put adjectives before the noun! I just wanted to add that I like your blog and the positive attitude you showed during the war. Congratulations for that. I understand the situation can be really hard for a sensible person. Let's hope things will be better. Re: Yom Kippur in Tel Aviv: kids on bicycles rule the streets

But... why aren't they speaking English?
/Ugly American Neat video, I had no idea things shut down so completely for Yom Kippur. But we're still waiting on the laptop story, Little Miss Tease McTeaser. Your public grows restless! Re: Re: Yom Kippur in Tel Aviv: kids on bicycles rule the streets

I concur!
I've been checking this blog every morning, in breathless anticipation, only to find still no sign of the ellusive Laptop story. Is there some sort of high-level conspiracy by the IT industry to silence our host-turned-whistleblower? Are men in dark coats skulking about in the shadows, waiting to disappear any sign of the troublesome laptop? The audience awaits this tail of cloak and dagger with baited breath. (PS: More likely, Lisa is off having too much fun to update us with the story). Re: Re: Re: Yom Kippur in Tel Aviv: kids on bicycles rule the streets

Yeah. With writing it's the kiss of death to say your going to write a story. For me its better to keep it a secret and then one day the doggon thing just bursts out and says "Helloooooo, look at me!!!"
