Emanuel: I wanted to gently point out that there are actually many minorities in western domocracies who refuse to identify with the broader community's national identity -- the Basques, the Corscians, the Catalans, etc. In my home country of Canada, for example, the Quebecois people have held two referendums on separatism in the last 20 years (both were unsuccessful). It's a bit of sweeping generalization to state that "no other nation would tolerate minorities using insulting terms".
