All fascinating, but maybe the aside about your capitalism/socialism ambivalence is the most interesting bit, especially when put next to the later material about the desire to have a voice! In may ways, private companies have more motivation to listen to the public's voice(s) than government sponsored organizations do. For example, my taxes support (US) public schools; my dollars support my childrens' day school; at which one do you think my opinions are better respected?
