Hi - I've been reading for ages, first time I comment. I lived in Israel as a child/teenager in the 70s, and have only been back four times since. Although I keep in touch with a couple of people there, blogs like yours have made a huge difference. This is more of an comment on the entry you linked to which made me realise how much things have changed. In the early seventies we used to go back and forth from W Jerusalem to E and the WB all the time. I visited Gaza in the mid 1990s and unlike you, did not feel safe mentioning my Israeli/Jewish connections. My Jerusalem-based British colleagues drove Israeli-registered cars and would drape a kaffiya over the seat when parking in places like Ramallah - the message there being clear.
