Re: Re: On mothers and food

Hi Ilanit, Thanks so much for commenting. About Gaza: I have visited several times, with Israeli journalists (colleagues) who speak Arabic and / or with Israeli colleagues. I have never visited Gaza with foreign journalists, but to tell you the truth I would hesitate to do so. In my experience, foreign journalists are the target of a lot of attention when they move around here - with their body language, their lack of Arabic and/or Hebrew and often the heavy camera equipment they lug around. Potential kidnappers recognize them easily and tend to regard them as soft targets because they know they will get a lot of international publicity that will influence the PA to expedite their release with a ransom. My Israeli colleagues have close working relations (and often friendships) with Palestinian journalists on the ground, they often speak Arabic and they know the territory, so I feel very safe with them. I am also in regular contact with a few Palestinian journalists in Gaza (and the West Bank) who take excellent care of me when I visit them - as I do of them when they visit me. We might not agree on politics, but we are very loyal to one another and have hosted one another in our homes, shared information, etc. I don't have any illusions about Gaza, but I also know from experience that it is more complex and less physically dangerous than it seems in the mainstream media reports.
