Okay, I see what you're saying now. I guess the difference between this particular abduction and the one at Ghajar was that the former succeeded, and that it came on the heels of the capture of Shalit in the south. But, as you point out, the Israeli response to the successful October 2000 abduction, which also occurred after the withdrawal from Lebanon, was nowhere near the same. And you're right about the reporting at the time. I just didn't see the demonization as much as the feeding of unrealistic expectations. But I accept your point now - thanks for explaining.
I agree with you, of course, that Israel would have been better off responding differently. All the points you make are right on.
No, I was trying to make it clear that I was NOT trying to compare your post to what I had been reading in the Sueddeutsche and Le Monde. It was a non sequitur about different interpretations of these protests in the foreign press.
