They appeared to be Tweedledee and Tweedledum, those fictional characters in Lewis Carroll's "Through the Looking-Glass" and in other tales. Like Carroll's characters, these look-alikes (tie, jacket, hairstyle, glasses, paunch, shirt, age) never contradicted each other; instead, they both uttered the most vacuous comments and blandest questions.
